NGO history:
We started our activities from a GP clinic. It was designed for general patients but we got 2 of its rooms and used the bath and living room for having group session in harm reduction. Families also were welcomed to be familiar with the principles of this new approach. We put the name “Persepolis” as symbol of Iran with great history and also universal ideology for humane and democratic principles for life. Everybody welcomed with no any reference for their religion, color, wealth or ethnic background. We brought 4 new topic into the directory of public health approach for people using drugs that were not available at that time; drop in centre, outreach, agonist therapy (use of methadone, Buprenorphine etc) and peer driven model as the most effective model for delivery quality care services for hard to reach drug users.
New office in Tehran:
With major focus on HIV related activities we found that nobody hear our vice here in a small city and to be effective we have to put some effect at national level on whole drug policy if not we will end up with pilot projects and years of years of small patchy size programs with no significant effects at the general epidemics of the HIV in Iran and in the region. Thus we decided to make a tough decision and move to the capital (Tehran).
